Born in 1977, Guillaume Barraud started music at the age of ten playing the guitar and the drums. It is through the subtle and haunting song of the indian bamboo flute that years latter he would find his own voice. From 2001 to 2006, the french flautist dedicated himself to North Indian classical music and the Bansuri, under the guidance of the living legend HARIPRASAD CHAURASIA, at the “Vrindaban Gurukul” in Bombay. Deeply immersed in Indian culture, he was able to assimilate the spirit and authenticity of this secular tradition. He’s now an accomplished exponent of the Bansuri flute recital.
A versatile musician, Guillaume has performed with renowned artists such as MANU EVENO of french band TRYO  (Canada, 2005 & France, 2008), Levent Yildirim, ERKAN OGÜR & MISIRLI AHMET (The Search Tour, Turkey, 2005), the late SAÏD CHRAÏBI, Sukhdev Prasad Mishra, Peter Herbert, and participated in the European tour: “VERTIGES”, by Film Director TONY GATLIF (2007).
In India, he had the privilege to perform with TRILOK GURTU (NCPA, Mumbai, 2006), Sanket Naik, T. S. Nandakumar South Indian Percussion Ensemble, Arnab Chakrabarty, Babulal & Naveen Gandharva, and several times along with Pdt Chaurasia at the annual “Krishna Janmashtami” celebration.
In 2011, Guillaume forms the band KARVAN TRIO along with French pianist Mathieu Bélis and Iranian percussionist Mossy Amidi Fard. Their first album AZAR is released on Buda Records in 2013.
He is also involved in various projects such as “Paris-Bombay”, Anassa Ensemble and “The Lady and the Boat” (Quart de Lune, 2015), Atman Project with the album “Uovo of Pitone” (New Healing Sounds, 2014), and many others.
In 2012, the flautist records for the soundtrack of the french documentary film Le Destin De L’Inde“, by Laurent Jaoui (Arte), and in 2014 for Academy Award nominee for best foreign language film “TIMBUKTU”, by Abderrahmane Sissako.
Guillaume works as a permanent staff artist in hospital and at the PHILHARMONIE DE PARIS for educational concerts. He is also a devoted and experienced music teacher.
The artist will soon release “ARCANA”, his first album as a leader, with an international quartet featuring virtuoso musicians such as British guitarist Tam de Villiers, bassist Johann Berby from Reunion Island, and Belgian drummer Xavier Rogé.
Nurtured on various travels, a bicultural identity and a taste for innovation, the music he is creating is narrative, eclectic and mesmerising.
